MTNA National Competitions
Rated Advanced, MTNA’s national music programme spans solo performance, original composition, piano duets, chamber ensembles and two-piano duos. Age-based streams serve children through young adults, with U.S. residence and category-specific requirements. The central challenge is preparing compliant repertoire or a polished score for successive adjudication; fees, entry windows and routes differ by stream.

Editorial perspective
Our Take
Full official 2026–2027 national umbrella, including composition, youth and Young Artist performance, chamber ensembles and Stecher and Horowitz Two Piano. Registration dates vary: main entry closed September 9, 2026 at 3 PM EDT; brass/voice/chamber open November 1 with December 2 at 3 PM EST deadline; Two Piano open September 1 with January 4, 2027 at 3 PM EST deadline. No single deadline stored because streams differ. String and woodwind categories remain separate official competitions but share age-specific evaluation scopes because the published preparation/repertoire/time model agrees. All ages and teacher/residency rules require reading the appropriate official stream.
