BPhO Round 2 is not simply a harder version of Round 1. It is the point at which the British Physics Olympiad begins selecting the small group invited to the Oxford Training Camp and, ultimately, the students considered for the UK international team. The paper is therefore designed for candidates who can sustain a long argument, make productive choices when a route is unclear, and communicate enough working for a marker to follow the physics. A student may be very fast on familiar questions and still find this stage difficult because speed alone does not replace depth. The first planning question is eligibility, not revision. Entry is by invitation after BPhO Round 1, and the official page says candidates must also be eligible for the UK team. Schools should confirm both conditions before building a preparation plan. For an invited student, the most useful preparation is neither a rushed tour of university physics nor endless repetition of short questions.
