Regeneron Science Talent Search sits in a very different category from an olympiad or a short-form school challenge. Society for Science is not asking students to solve a supplied set of problems; it is asking them to present a serious piece of independent research and to show the judgement behind it. That distinction is the heart of the programme. A polished report matters, but the work has to feel intellectually owned by the student rather than assembled to fit a highly selective application. The competition is especially interesting because it treats the entrant as an emerging scientist, not simply as the author of one impressive paper.
