TSL International Student Competition 2027 Opens
Writing / Creative / Sustainability
The Trust for Sustainable Living (TSL) International Student Competition 2027 officially opened on 10 September 2026, with Teacher Champion and school registration now available.
The 2027 theme is:
“NAVIGATING EL NIÑO — How I want world leaders to respond to our new extreme weather world.”
Students are invited to explore how world leaders should respond to a future increasingly shaped by extreme weather and El Niño-related climate impacts.
This year’s competition is much broader than a traditional essay contest. Students may submit an essay, letter, story, poem, artwork, music, video, or other creative response. Written entries are limited to 600 words, while video and audio submissions may be up to 3 minutes long.
The final submission deadline is 1 March 2027 at midnight UTC. Finalists and Honourable Mentions will be announced on 1 May 2027. The International Student Debates will take place on 1 July 2027 for Primary students and 2 July 2027 for Secondary students.
Participation is international. Students in the United States are eligible to enter, but this is not a US-only competition.
