American Mathematics Competition 10 (AMC 10)
An international mathematics competition where students solve 25 multiple-choice problems in algebra, geometry, number theory and probability. Open to students in Grade 10 or below who are under 17.5 years old, through an approved competition centre. Rated Advanced Level, with difficulty mainly coming from non-routine problem-solving, time pressure and increasingly challenging questions.

AMC 10 is the first of the MAA's main high-school American Mathematics Competitions. It is aimed at students in Grade 10 or below who meet the age requirements, and uses a 25-question, 75-minute multiple-choice paper. The syllabus is pre-calculus, but the harder questions demand flexible algebra, geometry, counting and number sense beyond routine classroom exercises. The MAA explains that exceptional AMC 10 and AMC 12 performers may be invited to additional competitions, including AIME-related routes. That is a pathway opportunity, not a guaranteed outcome. AMC 10 is not the final US IMO team selection test. The choice between AMC 10 and AMC 12 should be made carefully. AMC 12 covers more of the high-school curriculum, but a younger student should not automatically choose it because it sounds more advanced. Readiness, preparation time and the chance to build a strong score all matter. We rate AMC 10 at Advanced Level. It combines a broad entry environment with substantial problem-solving demand. Students should prepare through official papers and careful review, not by memorising every trick available online.
