MATHCOUNTS Competition Series

QUICK SUMMARY

Rated Advanced, This national middle-school mathematics series combines individual problem solving, teamwork and a fast head-to-head finale across four competition levels. It serves eligible U.S. students in grades 6–8, normally through their school, with a restricted non-school route. Success requires accurate non-calculator reasoning under tight time limits and sustained preparation across a multi-stage season.

Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament (HMMT) Season 30

QUICK SUMMARY

Difficulty varies by division from Advanced to Expert, HMMT Season 30 combines an in-person November tournament at Harvard with a substantially harder February tournament at MIT. Eligible students worldwide may apply through an adult coach as a team or individual, with places normally allocated by lottery. Both events mix individual, team and rapid Guts rounds; the main challenge is sophisticated timed problem solving, especially February's proof work.
